Communicating to the public we serve is one of our most important tasks. In order to reduce waste, Valley citizens need to know about our programs and how to participate. Here are some educational services we provide.

School Visits:We have educational and interactive presentations to fit any grade level. We would love the opportunity to speak to your class! With adequate notice, we can bring along Moby S. Loop the RRFB's recycling robot. Please contact Valley Waste to arrange a school visit.

Group presentations: Our staff offer presentations and workshops to all types of organizations - from girl guides to women's institutes to boards of trade. If your group would like to learn more about the local waste management system, please contact our office to arrange a presentation.

Information Booths: In an effort to promote the local program and waste reduction in general, Valley Waste staff are happy to provide an information booth at your special event. We try to gear the booth toward your audience and make it as interactive and educational as possible.

Special Event Greening: If you are hosting a special event this summer, waste management is an important consideration. Contact us for a copy of an Event Greening Guide with tips for managing waste. Plus, you can borrow our sorting centres that will help the public properly sort waste into recyclables, compostables and garbage.

Community Sponsorship

The RRFB Nova Scotia Community Sponsorship Program can help your organization “go green”. Funding is available for events or initiatives with a focus on waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting. Examples of potential funding opportunities include the purchase of waste separation containers, construction of community compost bins or the creation of items from reused materials. Contact us for more information.

Community Cleanups

Community groups that are planning a cleanup (of the shoreline or neighbourhood) should contact Valley Waste to make disposal arrangements. In some cases, Valley Waste can pick up the material you collect, in other circumstances we can ensure the tipping fees are waived at the Management Centres. Please contact the office at least two weeks in advance to make these arrangements.

We can also post your cleanup info on our website, just let us know the dates, times and other relevant info.

Here's a list of some cleanups taking place in our Region:

Place Cleanup Date Start Time
Fundy Bay shoreline, Margaretsville 2006-09-16 2:00 pm
