Public Outreach

Communicating to the public we serve is one of our most important tasks. In order to reduce waste, Valley citizens and businesses need to know about our programs and how to participate. Here are some educational services we provide for free.

School Visits: We have educational and interactive presentations to fit any grade level. We would love the opportunity to speak to your class! Please contact Valley Waste to arrange a school visit.

Business Presentations: Our staff are available to visit you business and review best practices for proper waste management. They can provide presentation to staff and recommend the necessary tools for a successful recycling program.

Group presentations: Our staff offer presentations and workshops to all types of organizations – from girl guides to women’s institutes to boards of trade. If your group would like to learn more about the local waste management system, please contact our office to arrange a presentation.

Information Booths: In an effort to promote the local program and waste reduction in general, Valley Waste staff are happy to provide an information booth at your special event. We try to gear the booth toward your audience and make it as interactive and educational as possible.

Site Tours: Come see what you own! We provide tours of our state–of–the–art facilities for school groups, community groups and anyone interested in what happens to their waste after it leaves their home. Please call ahead to arrange.

Community Cleanups

Community groups that are planning a cleanup (of the shoreline or neighbourhood) should contact Valley Waste to make disposal arrangements. In some cases, Valley Waste can pick up the material you collect, in other circumstances we can ensure the tipping fees are waived at the Management Centres. Please contact the office at least two weeks in advance to make these arrangements. The Clean Foundation is another supporter of litter clean-ups. For information, visit Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up.
