Bulky Waste Collection

What is Bulky Waste?

Bulky waste refers to any item that does not fit inside a standard garbage bag and includes large household items that can be safely lifted and collected by one or two people.

Size and Weight Limits

To be collected, items must meet the following limits:

  • Maximum weight: 75 lbs (34 kg) per item. Certain items such as furniture and appliances may weigh up to 200lb (91kg)
  • Maximum size: 4 feet (except furniture) Items too large to fit in the collection vehicle will not be collected. Exclusions include items such as rigid king-size mattresses, round glass patio tables exceeding the size limit, pianos etc.
  • Maximum amount: 2 bulky waste items on each regular collection day
Accepted Items

Examples of bulky waste include:

  • Furniture
  • Scrap metal or sheet metal
  • Water heaters and water tanks (within the size limit)
  • Washers and dryers
  • Other similar large household items

For everyone’s safety, please cover and securely tape any glass or mirrors before placing them at the curb—including glass tables. Collection trucks compact materials as they’re loaded, and loose shards can break off and pose a risk to drivers and staff. Please remove legs from tables as well.

Items Not Accepted

The following are not considered special waste:

  • Electronics
  • Items that fit in your regular garbage, recycling, or compost
  • Items restricted by local regulations or stewardship programs i.e. electronics, tires, paint, oil, household hazardous waste, bulbs
How to Prepare Your Items
  • Bundle, tie, or package items securely
  • Keep special waste separate from garbage, recycling, and compost

Note: For buildings with multiple units, each unit has its own volume limit. Please consult with your property manager or landlord for locations to place waste safely that will not block bins or access for trucks

Collection Schedule

Bulky Waste is collected on your regular collection date. Please check our website www.vwrm.com or your calendar for your collection day.

When to Put Items Out
  • Garbage, bulky waste, recycling, and compost:
Place at the curb no earlier than 7pm the night before collection, and no later than 7am on your collection day.
  • Multi-unit Buildings

Please check with your landlord or property manager for the location to place your items that does not block bins or the truck from carrying out collection.

Responsibility

All materials remain the responsibility of the property owner until they are collected. Any items not collected or rejected must be removed from the curb after collection is completed.
